Company History
Global Building Solutions (GBS) was founded with the purpose of selling Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), first to the Caribbean marketplace, and then moving to the African marketplace. The peak of the U.S. housing boom also coincided with the start of GBS, and there was ample local and regional demand for their product to earn business and a reputation in the U.S. In 2006, GBS received the opportunity to obtain a large-scale building project of 15,000 homes in the Republic of Gabon. The project is a pilot, both for GBS and for Gabon, as GBS has also taken the lead in arranging mobilization monies for this project.
In late 2007, GBS partnered with RLJ Companies to construct the RLJ Kendeja Resorts & Villas, a four star resort near Monrovia. Over the course of the project, GBS employed nearly 900 Liberian workers. Realizing the opportunities in the country, GBS established a local subsidiary, GBS Liberia, to explore other business opportunities, create employment for Liberians, and help the nation in its ongoing rebuilding efforts. GBS views its decision to remain in Liberia after the construction of the Kendeja Resort as a win-win situation. In early 2009, GBS-Liberia was selected to engineer and build the MacDella Cooper Foundation Academy. Also in 2009, GBS Liberian launched Liberian Homes, an endeavor to construct Liberia’s first-ever master-planned communities.
